We are having family come visit December 27 thru January 2nd. As mentioned in the previous post, I'm an organizational freak. I would love to have some sort of idea of what activities we could do. This particular family was here last year in September and we did the usual Snoqualmie Falls, Pikes Place, Space Needle and even the Underground Tour (wouldn't recommend). I was wondering what people do here in the winter. Do any of you have any fun family traditions or places you visit at this time of year? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Boeing tour in Mukilteo is interesting but then I liked the Underground Tour too. The Great Wall International Market in Kent is a fun place to look around. You can always ride the ferry to Bremerton to see the U.S.S. Turner Joy. Kids and men especially like this one because you can climb all over a navy warship.
What about a couple hikes? Rattlesnake Mt is managable even in the winter because of the forrest floor and tree cover. The Seattle Aquarium and Fish and Chips at Ivars? Feel for ya...
We love snowshoeing near Hyak ski resort (snoqualmie area), or go sledding at the sled park there. We also love going up to Paradise at Mt. Rainier if the roads are clear. Or go to Victoria and see the Butchart gardens with the Christmas lights up~beautiful!!! There is also a parade of boats in Seattle (you can ride on one of them too-music, entertainment, etc.). TONS of fun stuff to do! :)
oh yeah, and don't forget to check out the gingerbread exhibit in seattle! very cool.
How about you just tell them to stay home and you come to Utah instead...Stac
P.S. Thanks for pointing out the additional quote from President Uchtdorf, I had forgot about that one and I love it just as much. I added it to my blog.
Leavenworth is a fun place to visit during the holidays. There's also a fabulous light exhibit in Bellevue...I need to double check where. Botanical Gardens?
There's also Zoolights at Pt. Defiance. Not too thrilling, but fun.
Leavenworth is always a great trip- sometimes hard to get reservations during the winter, but also makes for a good day trip. We've rented snowmobiles up on Snoqualmie Pass before and done that as a day activity. Bellevue Square also offers their Snowflake Lane and Celebration Lane during the holiday season for a fun evening activity. I found a good website last year that gave a whole list of activities during the holiday season- I look for it and post it for you if I find it. Good luck!!!
I want to know what debi means by...feel for ya...?! :)
And we are not staying home so they can go to Utah. We might stay home so they can come to Vegas!
We love the Pacific Science Center! Be sure to get the Family Pass because you will save a lot of money. It will pay for itself in that first day. The IMAX shows are great. It's also right there at Seattle center so you can go to the center house for lunch. They also have the Childrens Theatre there and the Childrens Museum. They are both great. EMP (Experimental Music Project) is also there and you could spend a whole day there. We also like to walk on the waterfront. Even on a rainy day it is so much fun. I'll keep thinking!
I agree, underground tour is not that exciting. The Tillamook Village on Blake Island is a fun thing to do. It's like a NW Luau. It's a little spendy but something to do at least once. The Olympic Penisula is also a fun thing to visit. Poulsbo it great too. They have lots of cool shops. Also, taking the Victoria Clipper up to Canada is a fun day trip or can be an overnighter.
I have some great hiking books and they specialize in hikes for kids?? Let me know if you want to see them.
